Two Hearts in Artistic Collaboration

Akiba: As a nature photographer, what inspires me most deeply is to see and feel the exquisite, intimate shapes, colors, patterns, textures and rhythms that pulse with life and vitality and be able to share this experience and these images with others. Maryam writes poems/haiku in response to the photographs, which stir her soul & we share them through publication and exhibits.

Maryam: When I went to boarding school at 15, poetry & dance stole my heart. My poems got me into Sarah Lawrence College where dancing and poetry offered a connection to the sacred within and without. The connection to the sacred lives on as an expressive arts teacher & artist. My “Theatre Improv” haiku was commended in the 2022 Martin Lucas Award Contest in the UK.
